Travis Kelley - My Personal Story

I have called Casselberry home for more than 25 years. I bought my first home in the Garden District in the early 2000s and have continued to own homes here ever since. This is where I built my life, raised my family, owned a business, and formed lasting friendships.

I grew up in Kings Park, a small town on Long Island, New York. When I first moved to the Orlando area in 1996, it didn’t feel like home. Orlando was a much larger city, and I missed the close-knit sense of community I had grown up with.

When I moved to Casselberry in 2003, that changed. Casselberry reminded me of my hometown.

I found a community where people knew their neighbors, where you could find a good home with room to grow, where many neighborhoods did not have homeowners associations, and where schools, parks, businesses, and everyday necessities were close by. You could drive, bike, or even walk to many of the places that mattered.

Most importantly, Casselberry felt like a community.

I was once told that when the homes in my neighborhood were first built, neighbors would hop over the connecting chain-link fences to get together on the weekends. I like to think that same welcoming spirit is still alive today.

That sense of community is one of the things I love most about Casselberry, and it is a big part of why I chose to make this city my home.

Why I’m Running

I love Casselberry, and I care deeply about its future. After more than 25 years here, I have watched this community grow and change. I have seen improvements in our neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and community amenities. I want to help continue that progress while protecting the qualities that make Casselberry a great place to live.

I believe residents deserve to be heard. As a commissioner, I want to be accessible and approachable—not someone residents only see during an election. I want residents to feel comfortable bringing me their concerns, ideas, and hopes for our community.

I will work to make sure the voices of our neighborhoods are part of the decisions being made at City Hall. Public service should be about listening, working together, asking questions, and finding practical solutions. I won’t promise that I can solve every problem or that I will always agree with everyone.

What I can promise is simple: I will listen. I will do the work. And I will represent the residents of Casselberry to the best of my ability.

My Professional & Community Experience

My connection to Casselberry goes beyond being a longtime resident. I have spent years getting involved in the organizations and community efforts that help make our city stronger.

For about eight years, I have been involved with the Casselberry Chamber of Commerce, including five years on the Board of Directors. I have served as both Vice President and President. Through the Chamber, I have gained firsthand experience working with local businesses and understanding the challenges and opportunities they face.

I have also spent four years mentoring a high school student through Take Stock in Children. He is now a senior, and watching him grow and work toward his future has been incredibly rewarding. That experience has shown me the importance of investing in our young people and giving them the support they need to succeed.

For nearly three years, I have served as a trustee on the Firefighters’ Pension Management Fund, where I currently serve as secretary. In this role, I help oversee a fund that supports the men and women who dedicate their careers to protecting our community.

These experiences have strengthened my understanding of leadership, accountability, responsible decision-making, local businesses, and community service.

Most importantly, they have given me the opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and perspectives and to understand that good decisions begin with listening.

Building on Casselberry’s Success

Casselberry has come a long way, and I believe we have an opportunity to build on that success.

I want to see our city continue to grow while protecting the qualities that make Casselberry special. We can support local businesses, maintain great neighborhoods, invest in parks and recreation, improve our infrastructure, and create opportunities for residents to enjoy and connect with their community.

Places like Secret Lake Park and Dew Drop Park are important parts of what makes Casselberry a great place to live. I want to continue investing in our parks, recreation, and public spaces while protecting our lakes, neighborhoods, and green spaces.

I also want to encourage thoughtful redevelopment and support for local businesses so residents have more places to shop, dine, work, gather, and enjoy their community.

Growth should be responsible. Development should keep pace with infrastructure and city services while respecting the character of our established neighborhoods.

Casselberry doesn’t need to become something it isn’t to have a successful future. We can continue improving while preserving the sense of community that makes people proud to call Casselberry home.

Casselberry has something special. I believe our best days are ahead, and I want to help build that future together.
